The recipe for stand development is simple. Put your film in the tank, mix your Rodinal at 1:100, and go. Rodinal is an amazing developer. As Don Cardwell so tellingly puts it, rodinal and this method give both hard and soft tones at the same time! I'm thus going to develop my rolls of XP2 in rodinal using this semi-stand or minimal agitation technique. I hope it will complement your full-stand method, and I'll let you know the results.

A good method to domesticate this bitchy film seems to be pure stand development. This was developed in Rodinal 1+200, agitated continously for the first minute and after that just standing for two hours. That was my first stand development and I'm really pleased with the results! I used what I feel is a semi-stand development, or very low agitation technique. First was water pre-wash, for about 3-5 minutes, then pour off. Then 8 sheets developed in D-76 1+3 dilution, and 8 sheets developed in Rodinal 1+50 dilution. I adusted the times for temperature using the rule subtract 2% per 2 deg F over 68 deg F.

Stand development MEANS you let it stand after initial inversions, you don't "agitate" every minute as somebody suggested above. If you have the itch to agitate Rodinal, use it diluted @ 1:50. Even then, don't "agitate," just gently invert 3X each minute after gentle inversion 15-20 times in the first 30 seconds.

For semi-stand development you are basically refreshing the highlights areas with new developer each time you agitate the film so the highlights develop further
